Bow and Arrow Incident: Newcastle's Amar Dedic Stopped by Police
6 November 2026
Amar Dedic, the Newcastle United defender, was recently involved in a peculiar incident that caught the attention of local police. The 24-year-old, who joined the club in August, was seen carrying a bow and arrows at a scenic spot in Northumberland.
While enjoying the day with a friend, Dedic's actions raised concerns among the public, prompting a swift response from law enforcement. Reports indicate that a total of six police vehicles, including armed officers, were dispatched to the scene where Dedic was stopped about seven miles from the initial sighting.
Upon stopping the vehicle, police conducted a search and confiscated the bow and arrows. Thankfully, authorities were reassured that neither Dedic nor his companion posed any danger to the public.
Sources close to the situation confirmed that Dedic had no harmful intentions and was fully cooperative during the police interaction. Interestingly, Newcastle goalkeeper Mark Gillespie and former defender Paul Dummett happened to be nearby and arrived at the scene to lend their support.
This unusual event took place on a Wednesday, just two days after Dedic had participated in a narrow 1-0 loss against Everton at home. Since his transfer from Benfica for approximately £30 million, Dedic has appeared in seven Premier League matches, as part of a squad currently sitting 13th in the league with 11 points from nine games.
While Newcastle United has remained silent on the matter, Northumbria Police confirmed they are looking into the incident. In their statement, they mentioned receiving reports about two individuals carrying a bow and arrows along a track near a reservoir.
The police stressed that initial findings suggested the equipment was for recreational purposes and that the public was not at risk. Looking ahead, Newcastle will face Fulham this Saturday before the international break in November.
Dedic, having made a total of ten appearances across league and cup competitions, is also set to represent Bosnia-Herzegovina in Nations League matches against Sweden on November 14 and Romania at home on November 17.
