Bromley Turns to Karl Robinson in Search of Revival

5 November 2026

Bromley has made a bold move by hiring Karl Robinson as their new manager, marking the fifth club he has led in his career. The struggling League One side, currently at the bottom of the table, has secured Robinson, 46, who has been looking for a new challenge since departing Salford City in June. He has signed a long-term contract that signals the club's commitment to a fresh start. Byron Webster, who stepped in as interim manager after Andy Woodman was let go, will remain at the club, now as part of Robinson's coaching team. After a historic promotion to League One last season, Bromley finds themselves just three points adrift of safety. The Ravens are determined to turn their fortunes around and Robinson's experience is seen as crucial. Chairman Robin Stanton-Gleaves expressed his enthusiasm for the appointment, stating, "Karl brings an elite level of experience, tactical acumen, and a proven track record of competing at the sharp end of League One. His relentless energy matches our ambition perfectly, and we are unified in our vision to drive this football club forward into an exciting new era." Stanton-Gleaves emphasized the careful selection process that led to Robinson’s hiring, aiming for a manager with the right experience and mindset to elevate Bromley to the next level. Robinson's debut match will come this Saturday in the FA Cup first round against Rotherham United, where he will face off against Alex Bruce, his former assistant at Salford. Woodman, who was dismissed on October 22, helped the team achieve two promotions in three seasons but struggled with just two wins in their first ten matches this term. Robinson boasts an impressive resume, having spent over six years at MK Dons, highlighted by a memorable 4-0 victory over Manchester United in the League Cup and a promotion to the Championship in 2015. However, after a swift relegation the following season, he parted ways with the Dons in October 2016. His managerial journey continued with a 16-month stint at Charlton Athletic, followed by a successful tenure at Oxford United, where he guided the team to the League One play-offs twice before being dismissed in February 2023. After a brief role as assistant at Leeds United, Robinson took the reins at Salford City in January 2024, leading them to their highest-ever finish of fourth in League Two, only to be surprisingly let go after losing in the play-off final to Notts County.
