Glasner Calls for Balance as Forest Struggles Continue

5 November 2026

Nottingham Forest's recent loss to Brentford marked their sixth defeat in just ten matches across all competitions this season. Oliver Glasner, the head coach of the struggling side, is clear: relying on 'flower power' won't cut it if they want to find success. As the team languishes in 19th place in the Premier League, still searching for their first home goal and win, Glasner is pushing for a balance of trust and respect among his players. The 2-0 setback against Brentford was particularly painful, representing a fourth loss in five outings. Glasner has made it known that he won’t compromise on his expectations after arriving over the summer. "Trust and respect are non-negotiable values for me," he stated firmly. He elaborated, explaining that too much focus on trust can lead to a carefree attitude, akin to the 'flower power' movement. "If it’s just about trust, it’s like a Woodstock festival where everyone does as they please, which isn’t what high performance looks like," he said. Meanwhile, he recognized that a purely military approach, rigid and disciplined, could stifle creativity and fun. Glasner aims to strike a balance between enjoying the game and maintaining high performance levels. "That balance is crucial because that’s what we’re paid for, and we need to deliver results," he added. When asked if he should have addressed the team’s issues sooner, Glasner reflected, "I often wonder if I should have said something earlier. There were moments where I felt the time was right, but I hesitated, hoping things might improve. But after the Brentford match, it became clear that change was necessary." Currently, Glasner is not facing immediate pressure from the club's management. After a tumultuous previous season with four managerial changes, the hierarchy is looking for stability. The 52-year-old has garnered positive feedback for his methods, even if some players have voiced their frustrations about playing time. "I maintain regular communication with the ownership," Glasner explained. While he doesn't always speak directly with Mr. Evangelos Marinakis, he stays in touch with other key figures at the club, ensuring everyone understands his vision for Nottingham Forest. "I’m not here for my own interests; my focus is solely on what’s best for the club," he emphasized. "I refuse to accept things that feel wrong. My ultimate goal is to succeed with Nottingham Forest, and I’m deeply disappointed with our current state. Right now, I feel I’ve let everyone down, and I take that to heart."
