Ivan Toney's Nightclub Assault Trial Scheduled for 2028

29 October 2026

Ivan Toney is facing a long wait for his day in court. The England striker will have to stand trial in 2028 over allegations of assaulting a man at a London nightclub. The 30-year-old, hailing from Northampton, has entered a not guilty plea regarding the incident involving Saber Da Silva at the 100 Wardour Street club on December 6, 2025. Toney made his plea official during a hearing at Southwark Crown Court on Thursday, where a trial date was tentatively set for June 12, 2028. Judge Christopher Hehir expressed his apologies to Toney for the significant delay, explaining, "As you may know, the crown courts are operating under a great deal of pressure. We have got a massive backlog of work for various reasons." The accusations against Toney include headbutting and punching Da Silva during a heated exchange at the venue, which followed an investigation by the Metropolitan Police. The charges were made public in July. After Thursday's proceedings, Toney was released on unconditional bail. However, the timing of his trial coincides with the group stages of the men's European Championship, set to take place in England, the Republic of Ireland, Scotland, and Wales.
