Legal Drama Unfolds as Forest Green Takes Action Against Peterborough

30 October 2026

Robbie Savage's journey as a manager took a twist when he was appointed by Peterborough United on October 2. However, this transition has ignited a legal battle between his former club, Forest Green Rovers, and Peterborough. Dale Vince, the owner of Forest Green, has announced that the club is pursuing legal action against Peterborough for what he describes as an improper approach for Savage. Despite Vince initially blocking discussions about the managerial change, he felt compelled to concede when Savage was contacted directly. In a brief video shared on social media, Vince expressed that Forest Green has initiated a "legal process for the tapping up of our manager, now ex-manager, Robbie Savage." This statement has put Peterborough in the hot seat, though they have not commented on the legal claims, maintaining that they did not make an illegal approach. Savage's career took off at Macclesfield FC, where he achieved great success, leading the club to promotion with an impressive tally of 109 goals and points. He joined Forest Green Rovers in July 2025 and made an immediate impact, guiding the team to the play-offs, although their campaign ended in disappointment against Boreham Wood. Unfortunately for Savage, his time at Forest Green was short-lived. He departed the club after just one full season, with the team sitting mid-table at 13th after 11 matches. Vince reflected on the situation, stating that Peterborough's approach was not handled appropriately. "Peterborough themselves have covered themselves in no glory here. They came to us and said, 'We would like to speak to your manager,'" Vince told BBC Radio Gloucestershire shortly after Savage's appointment. "We said no, and then he came to us saying, 'I hear Peterborough want to speak to me.' So, that's an illegal approach." In response, Peterborough chairman Darren MacAnthony defended his club, asserting on social media that the process for hiring a new manager was conducted "100% correctly and properly, following all the rules." Since stepping into his new role at Peterborough, Savage has had a mixed start, recording two wins, two draws, and two losses across all competitions.
