Parker Poised to Lead West Ham After Green and Moncur's Support

3 November 2026

Scott Parker has had a rocky history against his former club West Ham, managing them four times and only securing one draw while suffering three defeats. Rob Green, a former goalkeeper for the Hammers, believes Parker's impressive track record of securing promotions from the Championship positions him as the ideal choice for West Ham's next manager. The 46-year-old is in line to take the reins after Nuno Espirito Santo's dismissal, prompted by an underwhelming start to the season following the club's relegation. Parker, who earned the title of club player of the year three times during his stint at West Ham, has successfully guided Fulham, Bournemouth, and Burnley to promotion in his managerial career. “Scott has demonstrated a consistent ability to get teams promoted,” Green shared with BBC Radio London. “Some might criticize his style as lacking flair, but I believe he would argue that his teams know exactly what it takes to achieve promotion.” Green emphasized the talent in West Ham's squad, suggesting they have what it takes to bounce back to the Premier League. “Once you're back in the top flight, then you can address the style of play,” he added. “With the quality available, Parker could create a strong foundation moving forward.” Currently sitting eighth in the Championship, West Ham is six points adrift of league leaders Middlesbrough. The team has secured only two victories in their last six matches, recently suffering consecutive home losses to Southampton and West Bromwich Albion. The decision to part ways with Nuno marks a search for West Ham's fourth permanent manager since David Moyes departed the club in May 2024. John Moncur, another former West Ham player, expressed that the club acted too quickly in letting Moyes go but also endorsed Parker for the managerial role. “If Moyes had remained, I don’t think we’d be in this position,” Moncur stated. “He’s the kind of manager who wouldn’t have allowed the situation to deteriorate.” Moncur acknowledged Parker’s familiarity with the club and his accomplishments elsewhere, noting, “He knows West Ham inside out, and it seems like a perfect match.” He also pointed out the high expectations of West Ham’s knowledgeable fanbase, saying, “They are astute supporters who won’t be easily deceived. Scott understands the importance of striking the right balance. Playing beautiful football means little if you’re not winning.”
