Scottish Premiership Showdown: Celtic's O'Neill Faces Pressure as Rangers Aim to Capitalize

6 November 2026

The Scottish Premiership is set for a thrilling weekend, just before the international break kicks in. With plenty of drama on the horizon, all eyes will be on the key clashes that could change the course of the season. Martin O'Neill is eager to steer Celtic back to winning ways, aiming to maintain at least a four-point lead at the top of the table. After a dramatic Europa League victory over Besiktas, he hopes that momentum translates into a much-needed win against Kilmarnock on Sunday. Currently sitting atop the league, Celtic has only managed to scrape one point from their last two matches. Meanwhile, Rangers are closing in and can capitalize on Celtic's recent struggles, especially since they aren't juggling European commitments. Kilmarnock faces a daunting challenge, as they have not tasted victory in their last 22 visits to Parkhead. Their current tally of nine points after 12 games is the lowest they've recorded at this stage of the season since the 2017-18 campaign. Derek McInnes' Rangers squad will be looking to keep their winning streak alive when they visit St Mirren, live on Sky Sports. Following a solid League Cup semi-final win over Aberdeen, they are keen to narrow the gap to just a point with a victory in Paisley. St Mirren has struggled recently, winning only one of their last eight league outings. Additionally, they have suffered defeats in their last four encounters with Rangers, including two losses this season alone. Marink Reedijk is urging his Hibernian players to build on their League Cup semi-final success as they attempt to escape the bottom of the table against struggling Aberdeen. The win over Hearts marked Reedijk's first as Hibs boss, and now he seeks to secure his first league victory after just one point from four matches. Aberdeen, also in dire need of a win, recently faced elimination from the League Cup at the hands of Rangers and have lost their last two league fixtures. They sit just three points above Hibernian and are in search of form at Pittodrie. Motherwell managed to snap their winless streak last weekend and will aim to carry that momentum into their match against Dundee United, who are unbeaten in their last six outings. This showdown won't be easy, as Dundee United's last league defeat was back in September. St Johnstone is on the hunt for their first league win in five games as they prepare to host Dundee. As for Hearts, they'll look to bounce back from a disappointing midweek Conference League outing against a resurgent Falkirk side eager to leapfrog them in the standings. With so much at stake, this weekend promises to deliver plenty of excitement in the Scottish Premiership.
